Custom Tours

It may be that the dates of our scheduled walking holidays or heritage tours do not suit you, or else you may prefer to book one of them on an exclusive basis. Or perhaps you would like us to design something just for you, whether a walking holiday or a tour or a mixture of both, based on your specific interests. In any of these cases, we will be happy to try and be of service.

Sometimes families or a group of friends include people of different ages or fitness levels, making it difficult to find a holiday that suits them all. For example a family group of parents, children and grandparents might like to take a holiday together, but whilst most of the group are keen walkers, some might not want to walk as much as the others (or even walk at all).

This is no problem on a Footscape custom holiday. We can offer a choice of interesting alternative activities, with everybody meeting up for lunch or tea, as required.

So on our custom tours, we can offer personalised services and flexibility tailored to your individual wishes.

We also have experience of organising guided or self-guided walking holidays for groups of 30 or more people.

What Dorset has to offer

Dorset has so much to offer, whether you are a serious walker, a leisure walker or somebody who does not enjoy walking at all.

There is the stunning Jurassic Coast, which includes many places of interest and beauty such as Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, Golden Cap, Chesil Beach, Studland and Lyme Regis, as well as a series of safe swimming beaches, many reachable only on foot, others by car and a short stroll. The coast around Lyme Regis and Charmouth is also famous for its wealth of fossils.

Dorset was also the home of Thomas Hardy, a county where today’s villages and rural landscapes - now called Hardy Country - continue to bring his novels and poetry to life. Hardy’s Cottage and Max Gate, where Hardy lived for over 60 of his 87 years, are both National Trust properties that are fascinating to visit, as is Clouds Hill, T.E. Lawrence’s tiny hideaway cottage which is full of his quirky interior design ideas - and very close to the site of his fatal motorbike accident.

Then there are several superb gardens, houses, museums and heritage sites to visit.

Historic Sherborne, Dorset’s finest town, is a must for any tour of the county, with its superb medieval Abbey Church, its two castles which once belonged to Sir Walter Raleigh, its museum and its old and timeless streets - a shopper’s paradise.

Finally, what many people enjoy most in Dorset are the drives along narrow hedge-lined lanes or walks through gorgeous countryside and villages, mostly off the beaten track, with time for a stop for lunch in a rural pub or a Dorset cream tea in traditional tea-rooms.

Booking a custom tour

Tell us what you want, and we’ll design a holiday between us, based on your wish list and our local knowledge.

It can be a short weekend or mid-week break or a longer holiday any time from February to November, depending on the availability of our services and accommodation on your chosen dates. Please try and give us as wide a range of dates as possible.

If you are interested in booking one of our scheduled walking holidays outside the scheduled dates, we will have to charge a little extra, since the Footscape vehicle will be reserved exclusively for you.

The following percentages will be added on to the published prices of our scheduled walking holidays or heritage tours:

  • 1 person - 25%
  • 2 people - 15%
  • 3 people - 5%
  • 4 people - no 10% group discount
  • 5 people - 5% group discount
  • 6 + people - 10% group discount.

If you have a very large group (10+) and would like to book a custom tour, please contact us several months in advance.

Thank you for organising our walk last week. We both had the most wonderful time. It was a fantastic introduction to walking in Dorset, thanks again for a superbly organised trip. ”
